When it comes to food I’m a great believer that the more natural the better. If you’ve got the opportunity to eat meat, fish, eggs, greek yogurt or any other natural source of protein then you should always choose it over protein bars or shakes. Unfortunately, for many of us who live busy lives ‘real’ non processed food sources are not always convenient when it comes to snacking, particularly if you’re looking for snacks that are high in protein.
I recently came across Bounce protein balls and have since been carrying one around in my handbag in case hunger strikes and I can’t get hold of a better alternative aka. ‘real’ food.
They are smaller than regular protein bars but filling enough and taste surprisingly much nicer than most other protein bars I have tried. I can not speak for all the bounce balls as I’ve only tried the Coconut & Macadamia Protein Ball and the Peanut Protein Ball, but these two taste like a treat. There are many other flavours available but as these are the ones that appeal to me the most, so far I haven’t felt inclined to try the others. All the bounce balls are gluten-free and don’t have trans fats.
The peanut ball is the higher in protein with 14 grams but also higher in calories with 210 kcal per ball in comparison to 9 grams of protein and 160 kcal for the Coconut & Macadamia ball. They both have 19 grams of carbohydrates.
I get mine from Waitrose, but according to their website you can also get them from Holland & Barratt and other health food stores.
Remember, unprocessed food is always preferable.
Have you tried these balls?
